This image is one of many murals that decorate the side of a community center in Guadalupe, AZ. The content of the murals were based upon ideas submitted my Guadalupe town members.
We sought out communities that wanted to represent themselves visually and came together with a common goal to do it. The town of Guadalupe is the result of the intersection of three unique and different cultures. It is a community comprised of mostly of Hispanic and Native members. The content of the murals were based on input from town members, and were meant to represent the mixed cultural heritage of the people of Guadalupe.Children also form a very special community. The post titled “Imagination Come to Life,” is a photograph of part of a dragon sculpture that has been paper mached by thousands of children. Children are invited to add to the sculpture. The post “Pieces to the Puzzle” was created by neighborhood kids to express ideas that are important to them. Finally, the post titled “Creative Individuality” shows a wall of ceramic tiles created by past and present students of a school. Another piece of art found that represents community is under the post “From a Dream to Reality”. The piece was created through the hopes of a community to memorialize and celebrate the life of a young girl.
